Thank you all so much! I researched most of the apps, and you're right, they are basically the same- 3days a week, approx 30min, alternating walking/jogging. Do most of you run on a treadmill during the winter? B/c we're still in the midst of a polar vortex here in MD, I will have to start my C25K on my treadmill. I would get bored walking on it so I'm wondering if that will be the same for running. I'm an outdoors person, and I really enjoy hiking and walking- but not in the cold!
I really appreciate all of the encouragement and support here. I'm sure I will have lots of questions and look forward to posting/chatting here often :)
Thanks again!
Welcome to the group. I used the original C25K program from Cool Runnings and I know lots of people who used it successfully. It really does seem to balance the progression and caution very well. But I haven't read too deeply into any others.
When i started it there really was only one podcast for it, the one by Robert Ullery. I used that and although I didn't like the music style alone, I cound it worked really well because he did a nice job balancing the music with the workout and it was all "generic" enough to not influence my cadence or pace at all as I was working out. And he throws in lots of encouragement along the way.
The second time I did C25K I used RunDouble on my android. it was nice because i could listen to other podcasts, or books on tape or your own playlist but the app still came through and gave voice cues. Ultimately I went back to Ullrey's because my playlist was too ecelctic and I hit weird songs at cadence shifts etc. I was just too lazy to make a good running playlist LOL
As for the "Dreadmill" the first time I did it it was all outside, rain or shine, but I waited till August. I didn't own a treadmill at the time. Now I have started again, indoors, and although it's still not my first choice, by far, I've made my peace with it. It's a tool, it doesn't have to be my personal love right now. If you can focus on the goal of running with your daughter, then you can "deal" with the treadmill. The only thing I would suggest, and many people seem to echo this, is as you progress, add some incline to your treadmill. It's pretty common that people feel like they've stepped back when they first go outside, like it gets arder again. I think it's probably because on the treadmill you're still not fully propelling yourself. It's an imperfect simulation to true running. It seems like if you do your treadmill work at that incline, most people find the transition to outside more comparable.
Have a great time, and keep at it. And congrats on all your success so far!
